Construction and Materials

The home was built in 1978 utilizing the zoning, building and energy code in force at that time. Because of the large land area and setbacks the home was allowed to exceed normal building heights.

The home is a unique timber-framed construction system designed to withstand earthquake forces while having a large proportion of the exterior wall in glass. The framing system is made of 3x12 inch structural Douglas fir timbers bolted to 15-inch diameter treated poles with a concrete perimeter foundation. The exposed timber frame was sand blasted then treated with a clear finish.

The floors are solid 3 inch Douglas Fir with a Swedish finish. The entire house is trimmed in VG Douglas Fir and Oak. Smooth wall sheet rock, with metal edge detailing; surround all windows and doors. Doors are a combination of solid birch or rail and stile with glass panels. Antique hardware, leaded glass windows and light fixtures are integrated into the home design.

The exterior is all cedar shingles and cedar trim. Decks are a combination of TREX and clear cedar. A new 30-year wolmanized cedar roof has recently been installed.
